They reflect on what is included with research and scholarship and ACPA’s historical, current, and future contributions. They also offer thoughts for those interested in contributing scholarship on why, how, and where to do so. Panelists

Antonio Duran

Antonio Duran is an assistant professor in the higher and postsecondary education program at Arizona State University. Antonio’s research examines how historical and contemporary legacies of oppression influence college student development, experiences, and success. In particular, he is committed to uplifting the experiences of historically minoritized populations in higher education.

Z Nicolazzo

Z Nicolazzo is an associate professor of Trans Studies in Education at the University of Arizona. Her scholarship has focused on discourses of gender in education, trans student livingness, and grief and loss. Currently, Z serves as the Executive Editor for About Campus, ACPA’s scholarly magazine. 

Vasti Torres

Vasti Torres is a professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the Indiana University (IU) School of Education and affiliate faculty in Latino Studies as well as The Center for Research on Race & Ethnicity (CRRES). She was appointed Interim Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education in the 2023. Previously she served in various administrative positions as well as a professor in the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education (CSHPE) and Associate Faculty Member in Latino Studies at University of Michigan. She has been the Principal Investigator for several grants including a multi-year grant investigating the choice to stay in college for Latino students as well as a multi-year grant looking at the experiences of working college students. She has worked on several community college initiatives including Achieving the Dream and Rural Community College Initiative. Her professional service includes being Vice President for Division J: Postsecondary Education for the American Educational Research Association (AERA) from 2019 to 2021, in 2007 she became the first Latina president of a national student services association – ACPA, and in 2020 she began her term as the Editor of the Journal of College Student Development.

Michael Almond

Michael is currently a Program Coordinator in the Department of Student Volunteerism & Service at Kennesaw State University. He has worked in Student Affairs for over 4 years, with experiences in Orientation & Transition Programs, Student Centers, Student Activities, Leadership Development, and Community Engagement. Michael earned a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a Master of Education in Student Affairs from Clemson University.

Keith Edwards

Keith (he/him/his) helps individuals, organizations, and communities to realize their fullest potential. Over the past 20 years Keith has spoken and consulted at more than 300 colleges and universities, presented more than 200 programs at national conferences, and written more than 20 articles or book chapters on curricular approaches, sexual violence prevention, men’s identity, social justice education, and leadership. His research, writing, and speaking have received national awards and recognition. His TEDx Talk on Ending Rape has been viewed around the world. He is co-editor of Addressing Sexual Violence in Higher Education and co-author of The Curricular Approach to Student Affairs. Keith is also a certified executive and leadership coach for individuals who are looking to unleash their fullest potential. Keith was previously the Director of Campus Life at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN where he provided leadership for the areas of residential life, student activities, conduct, and orientation. He was an affiliate faculty member in the Leadership in Student Affairs program at the University of St. Thomas, where he taught graduate courses on diversity and social justice in higher education for 8 years.
